Many vehicles are now fitted with Xenon HID lighting systems instead of halogen. This system brings some significant benefits, with up to 200% more light on the road than halogen. This type of headlight is very different from halogen, so when a lamp fails it can only be replaced by a Xenon HID specific part, not a normal headlight bulb.
HID lamps are meant to last the lifetime of the vehicle. In reality we find that they last about 4-5 years with normal usage. If you contact your vehicle dealer to source a replacement lamp then the average cost is £150 GBP plus fitting. We can supply the exact same part for considerably less.
The colour temperature of this product is 4300K - the standard on factory fitted Xenon HID.
All bulbs should be changed in pairs. This product is sold individually. If only one has failed, it's likely the other will fail very soon as they have both been used for the same period of time. In addition, if you change just one then you will find one headlight is brighter than the other and a different colour.
Due to the high voltages involved, a qualified mechanic or auto-electrician should replace the lamp.
Watch out for low quality replacement parts. This product has been made by Philips in Aachen, Germany and to the same high quality as your vehicle manufacturer insists on. Other cheaper bulbs will not deliver the same performance and reliability.
The product is fully road legal and is suitable for vehicles who already have a factory fitted Xenon HID system. It is not a HID kit. It is not suitable for vehicles installed with HID kits. We don't recommend HID kits.
This product is sold individually so add two to your basket if you wish to purchase a pair. Please note that this item may be sent in wholesale/plain packaging.
The Xenon Gas Discharge system is fitted on more and more of today's vehicles.
Rather than using a standard halogen based bulb with a filament, the high intensity discharge (HID) system generates an arc of light between two tungsten electrodes. The system produces around 200% more light than standard headlight bulbs and as a result regulators have required vehicle manufacturers to fit lens cleaners and automatic headlight levellers to ensure that oncoming vehicles are not subject to glare. The components in the vehicle generally last around 5 years. They should always be changed in pairs to ensure a consistent beam pattern.
NOTE: It is highly recommended that Xenon components are changed in pairs to avoid disparities in the beam pattern and colour. This product is suitable only for vehicles with the Xenon HID system already installed. This is a direct standard replacement, not an upgrade.
