I don't always agree with Autoexpress tests, this time is an exception. After an evening driving at night in heavy rain I became desperate for stronger headlights. Not wanting to rip apart my car to fit vastly more expensive HID/Xenon kits I decided to give these a go. +80% they say, and by eye I reckon it really is about double the light out front and it is a very pleasing white light. On the dual carriage way at night drawing up beside other cars the difference is significant and out on the dark country roads I feel I can actually see properly where I'm going for the first time. Night driving is much more relaxing now. How these +80% Philips X-tremes compare with Osram Nightbreakers "up to +90%" I cannot say. One thing I am sure of is I would not be without one of these bulb types or a full xenon light option on a car again. With the OE bulbs, I was subconciously checking that my headllamps were switched on when travelling in the dark or on poorly lit roads, owing to the fact that little light was being thrown onto the road. When compared to other vehicles, especially those HID equipped, lamp performance was generally poor, with a dull yellowish light.
